Buy in.
Peck in.
Don't die.
Everyone in a coop pays the same buy-in. Peck in every day to prove you're still alive. Miss one and you're dead. Last chicken standing takes the whole pot.
Three ways out of a coop. Only one of them wins.
Peck in
Every dayOpen the app, press the button, you're alive for another day. Any time in the 24 hours counts. A script that pecks for you counts too.
Chicken out
Costs 20%Leave alive, any time. You take 80% of your buy-in back. The other 20% stays in the pot for whoever outlasts you.
Die
Costs 100%Miss a day and you're dead. Your whole buy-in stays in the pot. No appeal, no refund, no "I was on a plane".
Same rule. Different stakes.
A new coop of every mode opens every Monday. Entry closes the following Monday, then the pecking starts. Example headcounts and pots shown.
Every trade feeds the pot while people are dying in it.
$COOP's creator fees don't go to a creator wallet. They go to the pots.
80% of every fee is split across the live coops in proportion to how many chickens are still alive in each. 20% buys $COOP on the open market and burns it. The winner of a coop is paid in dollars to their X handle through X Money, no wallet required to receive.
Pick a bird. Then don't let it die.
Hats unlock in Normal, costumes in Hardcore. Nothing changes the odds.
Who's alive, who died, who chickened out. The board is the content.
Example events with placeholder handles. Nothing here is live.
It creates no yield. Every dollar a winner takes was paid by someone who died, someone who chickened out, or someone who traded. If nobody dies, nobody wins.
Testnet first. Real pots later.
Coop launches on testnet with play buy-ins and no real value. Real coops open only where the rules allow, with every number on this site on screen before you buy in.
Enter a coop.
Pick your stakes, dress your chicken, connect, buy in. Then wait in the lobby with everyone else until entry closes and the pecking starts.
Connect your X account.
Your handle is your chicken's name on the board, and where the pot gets paid if you're the last one standing. No wallet needed to start.
We only read your public handle. We never post, DM or follow for you.
Pick your stakes.
Same rule in every mode. The buy-in changes, and so does what you can wear.
Your chicken.
Feathers are cosmetic. Hats unlock in Normal, costumes in Hardcore. Nothing changes the odds.
Normal unlocks feathers and hats. Nothing changes the odds.
Buy in.
Play buy-in for now. The wallet is optional until $COOP launches; connect it if you want to sign the seat.
Testnet preview. The wallet signs a message, nothing is charged. Your coop is remembered in this browser.
You're in. Walk around the coop, size up the competition, wait. When entry closes, the gate opens onto the yard and everyone's 24-hour clock begins.
The gate is open. The yard is yours.
The coop is running. Your chicken lives in the yard now: walk it with W A S D, peck in before your countdown hits zero, and watch who turns into a gravestone. Space pecks in. Escape leaves the yard, the clock keeps running.

Every rule, in order.
A coop is a tontine with a button. Everyone pays the same, everyone has to keep pressing, and the last one pressing gets everything.
What a coop is
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Coop | One game. A fixed buy-in, a fixed group of chickens, one pot, one winner. |
| Mode | The buy-in level. Easy, Normal, Hardcore. A new coop of each opens every Monday. |
| Entry window | The 7 days a coop is open for buy-ins. After it closes, nobody else can get in. |
| Peck-in | Pressing the button to prove you're alive. Required once every 24 hours. |
| Chicken out | Leaving alive. Costs 20% of your buy-in, which stays in the pot. |
| Dead | You missed a day. Your whole buy-in stays in the pot. |
| Pot | All buy-ins, all chicken-out penalties, plus the coop's share of $COOP trade fees. |
| Fee feed | 80% of every $COOP creator fee, split across live coops by chickens alive. |
Modes
| Mode | Buy-in | Peck every | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | $10 | 24 hours | Everyone. The one your friends are in. Losing stings, it doesn't hurt. |
| Normal | $100 | 24 hours | People who want the pot to mean something. |
| Hardcore | $10,000 | 24 hours | People who write a script. The fox lives here. |
Every mode plays by the same rules. The only thing that changes is how much it hurts to forget. Daily pecking is the cadence in every mode. The fox in Hardcore is decorative. For now.
Entering
- Pick a mode. One coop of each is open for entry every week, Monday to Monday.
- Name your chicken. Feathers are cosmetic. Your X handle is your name on the board and where the pot gets paid if you win. No wallet is needed to receive.
- Pay the buy-in. Everyone pays the same. It goes straight into the pot.
- Wait in the lobby. When entry closes, the coop starts and the first 24 hours begin.
One handle, one seat per coop. You can be in several coops at once.
Pecking in
Every 24 hours, counted from your last peck, you must peck in again. There is no calendar day, no time zone trick, no "it was still Sunday where I was". Your clock starts when the coop starts and resets every time you peck.
Pecking in is one press in the app. You can also script it. If your script pecks, you pecked. If your script breaks, you died. Coop doesn't check who pressed the button.
Chicken out
You can leave alive at any moment. Press chicken out and 80% of your buy-in is sent back to you. The other 20% stays in the pot. You are off the board for that coop and can't re-enter it.
Chickening out is not shameful. It is the only way to get most of your money back once entry has closed. The board does record it, though.
Dying
If 24 hours pass without a peck, you're dead. Your buy-in stays in the pot in full. Nothing is refunded, ever, for any reason, including reasons that are genuinely good.
Death is checked by the contract, not by us. There is no support ticket that can bring you back.
The pot
| Goes in | When |
|---|---|
| Buy-ins | At entry, 100% of every buy-in. |
| Coop-out penalties | 20% of the buy-in of everyone who leaves alive. |
| Dead chickens' buy-ins | Already in the pot. They just never come out. |
| Fee feed | Continuously. 80% of every $COOP creator fee, split across live coops by chickens alive. |
Nothing comes out of a pot except chicken-out refunds and the final payout. There is no rake on the pot itself.
Winning
When one chicken is left alive, the coop settles. The whole pot is paid in dollars to that chicken's X handle through X Money. If the handle can't receive after 30 days, the pot rolls into $COOP buybacks and burns.
If every remaining chicken dies on the same day, the pot is split equally between them. It happens.
Edge cases and rules
- Coops that never end. A coop with committed scripters can run indefinitely. The fee feed keeps growing the pot the whole time. This is intended.
- Multiple seats. One handle, one seat per coop. Several handles is your business, but each one has to peck.
- Dead coops. A coop that closes entry with one chicken settles immediately and pays them their own buy-in back. No fee feed goes to a one-chicken coop.
- Handle changes. The handle at entry is the handle that gets paid.
- Downtime. If the app is down, the contract still counts. Peck through any interface, including the contract directly.
Open now. Dying now.
Every coop is public: who's in, who's alive, what's in the pot. Example data until testnet opens.

The feed.
$COOP
Its creator fees go to the pots, not to a wallet. The token is a claim on how much chicken is being played.
What the token does
Two jobs. It's what you buy in with, and its trading fees are what feed the pots. There is no yield, no staking tier and no governance vote that changes the rules of a running coop.
Because every trade feeds a pot that someone is going to win, holders have a reason to want volume, and players have a reason to want holders. That loop is the whole token design.
Fee routing
- A trade happens. The launchpad charges its creator fee on the trade as usual.
- The fee is routed to Coop. 100% of the token's creator-fee allocation points at the protocol, not at a creator wallet.
- 80% goes to the live pots. Split across running coops in proportion to how many chickens are alive in each. A one-chicken coop gets nothing.
- 20% buys and burns $COOP. Bought on the open market, sent to a burn address, published with the transaction.
Paid to your handle
You enter a coop with an X handle. When you win, the pot is paid in dollars to that handle through X Money. You don't need a wallet to receive it and you don't need to hold $COOP to be paid.
Payouts run on a schedule after settlement. If a handle can't receive after 30 days, the amount rolls into buybacks and burns. Coop-out refunds are paid the same way, to the same handle, in the same run.
Fees
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Entering a coop | The buy-in. 100% into the pot. |
| Pecking in | Free, gas only. Once a day. |
| Chicken out | 20% of your buy-in stays in the pot. Not a protocol fee; it goes to the other chickens. |
| Rake on pots | None. |
| Trading $COOP | The launchpad's creator fee, routed 80 / 20 as above. |
| Payout | Free. X Money's own terms apply on their side. |

| Ticker | $COOP |
| Chain | To be announced |
| Contract | To be announced |

What can go wrong
- You forget. The most likely way to lose money here is a calendar. One missed week, gone.
- Price risk. If pots are held in $COOP, the pot can fall in dollar terms while you're alive in it.
- Long coops. A pot can be locked for years while the last few chickens keep pecking. Chicken out is your only exit and it costs 20%.
- Payout rail. X Money is a third party. If it can't pay a handle, the fallback is a burn, not a refund.
- Contract risk. The code is small but it holds pots and needs review before mainnet.
- Regulation. A pooled buy-in with a single winner looks like a lottery in some places. Real coops open only where they've been cleared. See Eligibility and regions.
- $COOP can lose value, including all of it. Nothing on this site is financial, investment, legal or tax advice.
Spec v0.4
Status: design spec. Every number here is a proposed starting value. v0.4 moves to daily pecking and adds the lobby.
Overview
A coop is a tontine. Everyone pays the same buy-in during a 7-day entry window. Once it closes, every chicken must peck in at least once every 24 hours. Miss a day and you're dead; your buy-in stays in the pot. Leave alive and 20% stays. The last chicken alive takes the pot, paid in dollars to their X handle.
The pot also grows continuously from $COOP trading: 80% of the token's creator fees are split across live coops by chickens alive, 20% is bought back and burned.
Terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Coop | One game: fixed buy-in, fixed set of chickens, one pot, one winner. |
| Mode | Buy-in level. Easy $10, Normal $100, Hardcore $10,000. |
| Entry window | 7 days, Monday to Monday. |
| Peck interval | 24 hours, rolling from your last peck. |
| Chicken out | Voluntary exit. 80% refund, 20% to pot. |
| Dead | No peck within an interval. 0% refund. |
| Fee feed | 80% of creator fees, split by chickens alive across live coops. |
| Settlement | One chicken alive, or all remaining dead in the same interval. |
Lifecycle
- Open. Every Monday, one coop per mode opens for entry.
- Enter. Handle plus buy-in. One seat per handle per coop.
- Start. Entry closes after 7 days. The first 24-hour peck interval begins.
- Peck, chicken out, or die. Repeats every 24 hours.
- Settle. One chicken left: whole pot to their handle via X Money. All remaining dead in the same interval: split equally.
Modes
Same rules in every mode. Only the buy-in changes: Easy $10, Normal $100, Hardcore $10,000. Daily pecking in every mode. What differs beyond the buy-in is cosmetic: Normal unlocks hats, Hardcore unlocks costumes.
The pot
| Source | Share |
|---|---|
| Buy-ins | 100% |
| Coop-out penalties | 20% of the leaver's buy-in |
| Fee feed | Coop's pro-rata share of 80% of creator fees |
No rake on the pot. Only chicken-out refunds and the final payout ever leave it.
Fee feed
- 100% of $COOP's creator-fee allocation is routed to the protocol.
- 80% is distributed to live coops, weighted by chickens alive. Coops with one chicken receive nothing.
- 20% buys $COOP on the open market and burns it. Each buyback is published with its transaction.
- Distribution runs on a schedule, proposed daily.
Contract sketch
One contract per coop, one registry that opens them weekly. Death is evaluated lazily on any call, so no keeper is needed to kill anyone.
on enter(handle): only during the entry window
require seat[handle] == none
pot += buy_in
alive[handle] = true
last_peck[handle] = start_time
on peck(handle):
cull()
require alive[handle]
last_peck[handle] = now
on chicken_out(handle):
cull()
require alive[handle]
alive[handle] = false; alive_count -= 1
pay handle: buy_in x 0.80 (via X Money run)
pot -= buy_in x 0.80
on cull(): runs first in every call
for each h where alive[h] and now - last_peck[h] > 24 hours:
alive[h] = false; alive_count -= 1; died_in[h] = interval(now)
if alive_count <= 1: settle()
on fee_feed(amount): from the fee router
pot += amount already the coop's 80% share
on settle():
if alive_count == 1: pay last alive handle: pot
else: pay equally every handle with died_in == last interval
pot = 0
X Money payouts are executed by an off-chain payout run that reads settled amounts from the contract. Amounts a handle can't receive after 30 days are burned.
The app
The coop app on this site is the testnet preview of the client. It runs the same state machine as the contract sketch, against a demo clock so a week doesn't take a week, and remembers your coop in your own browser. The real client differs in three ways: the clock is real, the buy-in is real, and the peck is a signed transaction.
- Enter: mode, feathers, handle, buy-in.
- Live: countdown to the next required peck, peck button, chicken-out button, the coop scene, the board, the log.
- Death is evaluated on load and on every tick, from timestamps, exactly like cull().
Edge cases
- One entrant. Settles at start, refunds the buy-in in full, receives no fee feed.
- Simultaneous last deaths. Equal split between everyone who died in the final interval.
- Scripts. Allowed. The contract does not distinguish who pressed.
- Handle disputes. The handle at entry is paid. Ownership disputes go to X, not to us.
- App downtime. The contract accepts pecks directly. The app is a convenience.
Risks
- Forgetting is the main risk and is not recoverable.
- Pots may be locked for years in long coops.
- Payout depends on a third-party rail.
- Pooled buy-ins with a single winner may be regulated as a lottery in some regions.
- Contract holds funds and needs review before mainnet.
Open questions before building
- Pot denomination: $COOP or a dollar stablecoin.
- A faster Hardcore, say every 12 hours.
- Whether the chicken-out penalty should decay over time or stay flat at 20%.
- Cap on chickens per coop, or unlimited.
- Whether the fox does anything.
- Which launchpad's fee routing to build on first.
Changelog
- v0.4. Renamed Coop, $COOP. Daily peck interval. Lobby with a walkable chicken. Connect X and connect wallet flow. Mode-gated cosmetics: hats in Normal, costumes in Hardcore.
- v0.3. Three modes (Easy, Normal, Hardcore). Testnet coop app with demo clock, cosmetics, board and log. Fee-feed visualisation.
- v0.2. Tontine mechanic: fixed buy-in, 7-day peck interval, death forfeits 100%, chicken out forfeits 20%, last one alive takes the pot. Entry by X handle, payout via X Money. Fee feed 80 / 20. No season end.
- v0.1. Season vault: any token, 30-day season, straight-line exit penalty from 30%, 75 / 20 / 5 split among stayers.

What's allowed. What isn't.
Allowed
- Scripts and bots that peck in for you. If it pecks, you pecked.
- Multiple coops and multiple modes at once.
- Chickening out at any moment, for any reason.
- Pecking through any interface, including the contract directly.
Not allowed
- Exploiting the contract. Report it privately and get credited instead.
- Impersonating another handle at entry to redirect their payout.
- Circumventing region restrictions to buy into real coops.
- Interfering with other chickens' ability to peck, such as attacking the app or their scripts.
Enforcement
The contract can't be paused and a running coop can't be edited, so enforcement happens at entry and payout: blocked handles can't enter new coops, and payouts to handles that entered fraudulently are held pending review. Everything else, the contract decides.
Where real coops run.
Age
You must be an adult where you live to buy into a real coop. Testnet coops use play buy-ins with no value.
Region status
A pooled buy-in with a single winner looks like a lottery in some places and like a game of skill in others. Real coops open only in regions where they have been enabled after legal review. The list is published here before the first real coop opens.
What "under review" means
We have not finished the legal opinion for that region. You can watch coops, use testnet, and hold $COOP. You cannot buy into a real coop.
Circumvention
Using a VPN or a relay to buy into a real coop from a region where they're not enabled is against the Terms. Payouts to such entries may be held.

Service status
Testnet not yet open. Live status and the spec changelog are linked here when it is.
Terms of service.
Plain language on purpose. Draft for a design and product preview; the final terms are published before any real coop opens.
1. Who we are
Coop is a design and product preview of a tontine protocol operated by Coop Labs Ltd. ("we"). These terms cover this site, the testnet app and, once they open, real coops.
2. Eligibility
You must be an adult where you live and in a region where real coops have been enabled. See Eligibility and regions.
3. Your handle and wallet
Your X handle is your identity in a coop and where payouts go. You control your wallet and your keys; we never hold them and never ask for them.
4. Testnet
Testnet coops use buy-ins with no monetary value. They cannot be converted into anything of value and may be reset at any time.
5. Real coops
A real coop is a smart contract. Once opened, its rules cannot be changed by us or by anyone. Missing a 24-hour peck interval forfeits your buy-in in full. Chickening out forfeits 20%. There are no refunds for any other reason.
6. Payouts
Pots are paid to the X handle given at entry through X Money, on a schedule after settlement. Amounts that cannot be delivered after 30 days are burned. X Money's own terms apply to receiving.
7. Fees
No fee is taken from pots. $COOP trading fees are routed 80% to live pots and 20% to buybacks and burns, published on screen.
8. Prohibited conduct
Circumventing region restrictions, exploiting the contract, impersonating another handle, or interfering with other players' ability to peck.
9. Disclaimers
The protocol is provided as is. Nothing on this site is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. Tokens, including $COOP, can lose value, including all of it.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses from forgetting to peck, price movements, contract bugs, network failures, payout-rail failures, or your own decision to chicken out.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. Changes are announced on this site. Running coops are unaffected by any change.
Privacy policy.
What we collect
Your X handle when you enter a coop, your email if you join the waitlist, and what you send us if you write to support. Everything else about a coop is public on chain.
How we use it
To run the board, pay you, send the emails you asked for and answer you. We do not sell it and do not use it for advertising.
Public by design
Handles, pecks, deaths, chicken-outs and payouts are public. That is the game. We cannot delete on-chain data.
Retention
Waitlist emails until you unsubscribe. Support threads for two years.
Your choices
Unsubscribe from any email, or write to the privacy address on the Support page for access, export or deletion of off-chain data.
